Nu ons huwelijk dichterbij komt -nog 1 maand en 2 weken!- besef ik meer en meer dat trouwen een 'sprong in geloof' is (leap of faith, klinkt net iets beter:). Overal rondom ons zien we schrijnende situaties, gezinnen die helemaal gebroken zijn, vol pijn. Scheidingen of gewoon een in stilte gestorven huwelijk van twee mensen die nog wel samenleven maar, ... Helemaal niet van die stevige, mooie, gelukkige huwelijken waar zo veel mensen van dromen. Als je op al die gebroken harten focust, kan het huwelijk heel angstaanjagend lijken!
Maar daar hoeven we niet op te focussen! Want dan is er God. En Hij belooft dat als we ons eigen leven opgeven, we het zullen winnen! Daarbij is de vrucht van Zijn Geest zachtaardigheid, nederigheid, liefde, vriendelijkeheid,... (wie wil niet met iemand samenwonen die deze vruchten draagt!?) God kan Nick en mij de liefde geven die we nodig hebben voor elkaar, elke dag opnieuw. We moeten het hem alleen maar vragen! En hoe hebben we Hem al zien werken doorheen de moeilijke momenten! We weten zeker dat wat er ook gebeurd, Hij zal herstellen en genezen, zegenen, helpen en liefhebben, in ons en voor ons!
Daarom vind ik dit zo een mooi liedje! Het ontkent niet dat het huwelijk soms heel moeilijk kan zijn... maar het zegt ons dat wij het licht van de Mensenzoon in ons dragen, dus het is oke, er is niets waar we bang van moeten zijn. Het zegt ons dat die belofte die we maken op onze huwelijksdag, er net is voor die reden, en dat wat je opgeeft voor God overvloedig terugkomt.
We vertrouwen de Heer, we geloven dat Hij ons huwelijk zal zegenen en beschermen, en we bidden dat we samen een zegen voor Hem en anderen kunnen zijn!

As our marriage approches, now in 1 month and 2 weeks, I realise more and more that getting married is a leap of faith. In so many families around us we see brokenness, hurt and heartache instead of solid, beautiful and happy marriages. If you focus on this, ... marriage can seem terrifying!
But then there is God. And He promises us that when we lay down our lives, we will gain it. The fruit of His spirit is gentleness, meekness, love, kindness, ... (who wouldn't want to live with someone who carries that fruit?!) He can give Nick and me the love we need for each other every day. And how we have seen Him working already through all the difficult times! We know and have seen that whatever happens, He will restore, bless, help, love for us and in us!
That's why I like this song: it doesn't deny that marriage can be difficult... but it tells us that we have the light of the Son of Man, so it's okay, there is nothing left to fear. It tells us that the vows are there for a reason, and that what you give up comes back to you in an abundant way. We trust in the Lord, that He will bless and protect our marriage, and pray that we can be a great blessing together!

Even praktisch: de uitdaging om naar ons feest te komen zal niet zo zeer de locatie vinden zijn, maar wel een plekje bemachtigen waar je je auto kunt parkeren. We stellen voor je auto 's morgens te parkeren en de rest te voet te doen: de kerk en het restaurant liggen maar 5 minuutjes stappen van elkaar.
Het restaurant, de Adelijke Belofte, stelt de Heilig Hart parking voor (waarvoor je moet betalen) op Naamsestraat 102 . Die ligt wel al wat verder van de kerk. In de buurt van de kerk kan je bijvoorbeeld voor de betaalde Ladeuzeparking gaan. Let's get praktical: the challange that poses itself to get to our wedding, will not be searching for the location, but searching for a parkingspot in the centre of Leuven. We suggest you park your car in the morning and do everything else on foot: the church and restaurant are only five minutes away.
The restaurant suggests the payed parkinglot 'Heilig Hart parking' on the Naamsestraat 102. This is a bit further from the church. If you want to park near the church, you can choose to pay for the Ladeuzeparcking. De alom gevreesde scheiding van je vrienden en aanverwanten in twee groepen: Avondfeestmensen en receptiemensen....
Bah, dat willen we niet! We hebben jullie allemaal graag! :)
Eerst dachten we eraan om gewoon 1 groot feest voor iedereen te geven. Dat bleek dan toch niet zo praktisch... Daarom hebben we maar besloten om een donders goede receptie te geven, die er staat als huwelijksfeest. Zo is iedereen uitgenodigd op ons huwelijksfeest, en kunnen we 's avonds nog even gezellig tafelen met familie en enkele vrienden.
Onze receptie gaat door in de Adellijke Belofte (hier zie je al wat foto's), een mooi restaurant in het centrum van Leuven, 5 minuutjes stappen van onze geliefde kerk ICEL. De Adellijke heeft een hele mooie tuin, romantiek alom, dus als het op 7 mei goed weer is dan gaan we allemaal de tuin in om te genieten van een namiddagje zon, leuk gezelschap, life muziek van een pianist die helemaal uit Nederland komt, ... Je hoeft je boterhammetjes niet mee te brengen, want we zorgen ook voor lekkere hapjes, waarmee je een lichte lunch gegeten hebt.
Bid dus zeker voor een prachtige, zonnige lentedag op de 7de!
Getting married is fun! A lot of fun! There is only one disadvantage about planning a weddingparty... the feared seperation of your friends and relatives in two groups: evenyingparty-people and receptionpeople...
Bah, we don't want that! We like you all very much :)
First we thought: let's have one big party for everyone! But this was financially not so easy... that's why we decided to give a really nice reception, that can count for a weddingcelebration. Like that everyone is invited to the party, and at night we can still have a nice dinner with family and a few friends.
Our reception takes place in the Adellijke Belofte (above you can see some pics), a nice restaurant in the centre of Leuven, it's only five minutes walking from our beloved church ICEL. De Adellijke Belofte has a very nice garden, full of romance, so if the 7th of may will be sunny, we 'll all be in the garden to enjoy an afternoon of sun, nice company, live music from a pianist who is coming all the way from the Netherlands...
And, no need to pack your sandwiches, because we will serve nice snacks, that will count for a light lunch.
So... please pray for a beautiful, sunny spring day on the 7th!
